EPA Fines California Grocery Distributor For Violations of Federal Pesticide Law

LOS ANGELES—The Environmental Protection Agency Sept. 19 announced a 538,200 fine against a Los Angeles grocery distributor for allegedly selling a cleaning product that should have been registered as a pesticide. Unified Western Grocers is the third California company that EPA has targeted for selling or distributing household products that claimed to disinfect or control germs. In a news release, EPA said it has filed an administrative complaint accusing the company of violating the Federal insecticide, Fungicide, and Roderiticide Act.
