EPA Proposed Rule Gives FDA Authority Over Pesticide-Treated Food Packaging

An Environmental Protection Agency proposed rule published April 6 would give the Food and Drug Administration regulatory jurisdiction under the Federal Food,Drug,and Cosmetic Act over food packaging treated with pesticides(72 Fed.Reg.17,068).The proposed rule would exempt packaging that is treated with a pesticide from the definitions of "pesticide chemical" and "pesticide chemical residue" under Section 201(q)of the FFDGA,according to the notice in the Federal Register.
