Analysis of Platts observed iron ore spottrades versus reported sales from the twomajor Australian producers shows that RioTinto and BHP Billiton both sold around14% of their iron ore on a spot basis incalendar 2015. Rio sold 37.1 million mt over237 transactions out of attributable sales ofaround 261 million mt from Western Australia,while BHP sold 13.1 million mt across 125transactions out of attributable iron ore salesof 222 million mt (see chart on page 4).
