Houston—Cumene offers for January were at 150 cents/gal DDP USG on Tuesday, putting the potential blendstock at a discount to toluene, another popular octane booster. "Propylene is so low now, so cumene is still popular (as a blendstock)," a gasoline blender said on Tuesday. With benzene offered at 105 cents/gal FOB USG on Tuesday, and refinery grade propylene priced near 18 cents/gal, production of cumene would cost less than 60 cents/gal on a spot basis. Cumene buyers on Tuesday, though, were bidding 144 cents/gal DDP for January, with offers at 150 cents/gal.
