Bill to Ban Phthalates in Children's Products Among Few on Chemicals to Pass Legislature

LOS ANGELES—California lawmakers ended their regular legislative session Sept. 12, sending more than 50 environment-related bills to the governor's desk for his signature or veto, including one that would ban phthalates in children's products. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has 30 days to act on the bills. Generally, the environmental community expressed disappointment with the measures that emerged from the session that ended two days early.
