摘要

The cytokinin content of the basal portion of stem cuttings of I. wallerana [I. walleriana] was examined daily. Both qualitative and quantitative changes were observed over the period of root formation. The peak in polar cytokinin-like activity coincided with the initial stages of root primordia initiation and development. Non-polar cytokinin-like activity showed greater fluctuations but only exhibited a substantial increase after the roots had extended through the epidermis and had begun to elongate. It was suggested that stem tissue has the metabolic ability to alter the initial levels of plant growth regulators to enable efficient adventitious root formation.
