NO LASIUS PLATYTHORAX SEIFERT (HYMENOPTERA:FORMICIDAE) IN THE URBAN GREENERY OF WARSAW?

Czechowski and Pisarski(1990) described the species composition andstructure of ant communities of wooded patches(originally Tilio-Carpinetum) in Warsaw, situ-ated along the Vistula river escarpment withinthe city. The paper was immediately succeededby S eifert's (1991, 1992) taxonomic revision,where one of the most abundant species there,Lasius niger, was split into two sibling species:L. niger (L.) and L. platythorax Seifert, whichclearly differ in their ecological requirements.Re-examination of the old material in the lightof the present taxonomic knowledge showed thatonly L. niger, a polytope of moderately dry openhabitats, was present in the study habitat. L. platy-thorax, a polytope of moderately wet forests, waslacking from urban wooded areas.
