Analysis of the variability in collected peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) cultivars for the establishment of core collections

An analysis of the variability in collected peanut accessions from INIFAT's Gene Bank was carried out, on the basis of a set of morphological and agronomic characteristics, related to the vegetative and reproductive development of the species, with aview to the possible establishment of a representative 'core' collection. The most variable indices were pod and seed dimensions, the presence of flowers on the main stem, and flowering pattern. Minimum descriptors for the collection were identified, aswell as the more significant variability groups, and also their relevance to conservation.
