The Department of Transportation should ensure operators of hazardous liquid pipelines accurately report threats to their systems, such as cracks or other problems, according to a DOT inspector general audit report released Sept. 21. Inaccurate reporting of threats hampers the ability of DOT's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to focus limited inspection resources on areas of greatest concern, the report said.
