An Unusual Pregnane Derivative and Dibenzylbutyrolactone Lignans from Centaurea sclerolepis

Plants of the large genus Centaurea L.(Asteraceae,tribe Cardueae) have been the object of numerous chemical studies,leading to the isolation of sesquiterpene lactones and acetylenes as the most representative secondary metabolites of this taxon.Following our chemosystematic work on Centaurea species of the Mediterranean area [1-5],we have now examined seeds of the hitherto unstudied Centaurea sclerolepis Boiss.,an endemic Turkish species distributed in eastern regions of Anatolia [6].
