Progress in Sequencing Plant Genes

摘要

The Commission on Plant Gene Nomenclature is establishing a system of nomenclature in which genes encoding substantially similar products have common designations across the plant kingdom (CPGN, 1994). Efficient communication among researchers requires the use of common language, or nomenclature, to define the same gene. Scientists interested in chloroplasts and mitochondria have for a decade enjoyed the ability to precisely describe the focus of their research (Hallick and Bottomley, 1983). Part ofour efforts involve collating information from the EMBL Data Library, and sending sets of data to working groups that specialize in specific categories of genes. The explosion of sequences in the public databases demands an equal resource for nuclear genes.
