Transportation Secretary Announces Plan To Address Critical Railroad Safety Issues

Secretary of Transportation Norman Y.Mineta announced May 16 a new national railroad safety plan in which the railroad industry voluntarily will provide local emergency responders a ranked listing of the top 25 hazardous materials transported through their communities.Under the new National Rail Safety Plan,which will be overseen by the Federal Railroad Administration,emergency responders must request the ranked list of hazardous materials in writing.
