Big tractor hoods switch from steel to thermoplastic at John Deere

The swtich reduces hood weight from 100 kg (220 lb) to 73 kg (160 lb), reduces part count from 56 to 29, and allows an automotive-type, tilt-open design. Previously, accessing different engine components had required unbolting various steel panels, says Deere design engineer Eric Keen.
