Replacing an injection molding with a laser-cut extruded sheet saves one OEM

Conventional injection molded instrument panel lenses had a high reject rate (as much as 15% at the molding machine because of optical quality requirements) and poor field performance. Assembly plants returned lenses damaged by handling and owners could scratch the surface by wiping dust off with a paper towel, generating a complaint.
