A new substitute for carbon black pigments is said to be affordable and environmentally sound.ApexCM from Carbolytic Materials Company(CMC),Maryville,Mo.,is reclaimed from scrap tires.CEO Ray Riek says the product does not replace carbon black in every application,but independent laboratory testing shows that it can replace N700 and N900 carbon blacks in rubber and plastics,and it can also replace N500 and N600 blacks in certain applications.It can be a 100% replacement for N700 carbon black with just slight reformulation.As a partial replacement,it can cut cost by 20% to 50%.
