At this month's K 2004 show in Dusseldorf,Vyncolit of Belgium(U.S.office in Farmington Hills,Mich.)introduced Vyntec moldable phenolic compounds reinforced with short carbon fibers.These products are said to provide properties equal to or better than those of more costly PEEK and PEI(GE's Ultem)thermoplastics reinforced with carbon fibers,"Vyntee's tribologieal(wear)properties are said to be particularly impressive:Tests of one grade showed only 3% to 6% as much wear as carbopn-fiber/PEEK.
