Styrolution Consolidates Polystyrene Business

Styrolution, Aurora, Ill., plans to mothball its 330-million-lb/yr PS plant in Indian Orchard, Mass., by year's end. The move is aimed at strengthening the long-term economic sustainability of its PS business in North America and comes after several years of overcapacity in the region. The company will continue to serve the North American PS market from plants in Deca- tur, Ala., Channahon, Ill, and Altamira, Mexico. By the third quarter, Styrolution will also have shifted production of NAS styrene-acrylic copolymers from Indian Orchard to Decatur, where it will convert a GPPS line into a swing line to produce PS or NAS.
