High-Speed All-Electric Injection Press For Packaging at K 2016

A late addition to the K 2016 exhibit of Wittmann Battenfeld (U.S. office in Torrington, Conn.) was the first of its new line of EcoPower Xpress highspeed, all-electric machines for packaging and other thin-wall parts. This machine is the latest solution to the long-sought goal of equaling-or even beating-the speed and acceleration of an accumulator-assisted hydraulic unit together with the all-electric advantages of superior energy efficiency, cleanliness, quietness, and repeatability. The machine replaces ballscrews with faster rack-and- pinion drives for the newly designed toggle clamp and injection unit. The latter has two water-cooled servo drives for injection and one for plastication. The result is injection speed up to 600 mm/sec and acceleration of 1.5 G. Maximum clamp closing speed is 1800 mm/sec and injection pressure is 29,000 to 36,250 psi. Oil lubrication for the drives is completely encapsulated for cleanliness. An integrated servo-hydraulic unit is supplied for mold actions; all-electric is optional.
