SouthGobi Energy Resources said it has purchased an equipment fleet for the development of an open-pit coal mine at Ovoot Tolgoi in Mongolia. Chief executive Peter Meredith said in a statement that SouthGobi intends to start operating the mine in Q1 2008 and ship coal out of it in Q3 2008. The company said the Ovoot Tolgoi work camp has been "winterized," adding that this effort "will service the mine during the preproduction phase." Mongolia is known for its severe winter.
