Origin selects ConocoPhillips for $7.8 billion CSG joint venture

Origin Energy, an Australian coal seam gas producer targeted by Britain's BG Group, has invited ConocoPhillips to become its joint venture partner to develop a liquefied natural gas export project in Queensland. US oil producer ConocoPhillips is to acquire a 50% stake in Origin Energy's coal seam gas interests for A$9.6 billion ($7.8 billion) and help develop them for export as LNG to markets in Asia. Origin's CSG assets are to provide the feedstock for two LNG export projects that are to go into production in 2014.
