BASF plans to increase polystyrene prices in September by Eur85/mt ($109/mt), the company said Wednesday. The announcement follows the settlement of three September contracts for feedstock styrene at an average increase of Eur48/mt. It also follows producer Ineos Nova’s announcement Friday that it proposes to increase prices in September by Eur50/mt for general purpose PS and Eur65/mt for high impact PS. “August 2010 was a significantly better month than August 2008 and 2009. And, we expect September to be a significantly better month than August,” a BASF source said.
