Domestic PET price gained 2 cents/lb on higher MEG costs. There was no settlement yet for February’s paraxylene contract but participants expected a lower settlement in line with the $35/mt decrease in Asia. US PET makers were adamant they would not give back any raw material decrease and would stick to their 5 cents/lb increase in order to increase their margins. Participants pointed to Eastman’s dismal financial results on PET in 2009 as evidence they needed to raise margins.
