Mechel reports 236% jump in net profit on coking coal output increase

Russian mining and steel group Mechel OAO reported a 236% on-year jump in net profit to $462.27 million for the January to September period on the back of an increase in its Q3 coking coal concentrate output, the company reported December 14. Mechel said the higher net profit attributable to share- holders was compared with a loss of $339.8 million during the same nine months the previous year.
