The Asian low density polyethylene market firmed $36/mt from the previous week, hitting the highest level since May 27, driven by a global supply crunch. Spot availability from South Korea and Malaysia was limited due to plant shutdowns in October. Hanwha Chemical plans to shut its LDPE plant in October for a turnaround. Supplies from the Middle East are expected to come back from October but underlying spot availability was still tight. Ex-Qatar LDPE was reported to have been traded at $1,400/mt CFR China (L/C at sight) this week. One deal was also reported at $1,420/mt CFR Taiwan. Offer levels were also reported at $1,500/mt CFR India this week. Offers of LDPE coating grade (South Korea) were even higher at $1,550-1,570/mt CFR India.
