NWE butadiene prices were drifting further down this week as ample supply in the European market put further pressure on sellers. Although there were limited reports of trade on the spot market, one source reported selling a “a few rail cars” to a consumer at Eur1,380/mt, giving a clear indication that prices were lower in the market. Several sources confirmed that the market was better supplied at present in both butadiene and Crude C4. One producer said: “The feeling is that the market is now more balanced. Molecules are more easily available now and you can find prompt material. But people do still want product.” In addition to the better supply now being seen in Europe, there were also clear signs that the once strong US market, was now well covered for product, with talk of major US producers coming out of sales allocation.
