The US acrylonitrile price was assessed higher this week as supplies continued to tighten and contracts were heard done above 100 cents/lb. ACN buyers were facing a more than 20- cent increase in contracts, but as of last week were resisting at least a portion of the increase. A source said an 11 cent increase was likely, though some buyers could be paying more or less than that. The contract was assessed at 110 cents/lb this week, up 11 cents from last week. Downstream demand for ACN remained strong, particularly from the automotive and textile sectors. However, some ACN buyers were afraid the sharp increase could start to kill some of that demand.
