As producers tried to get an additional increase in chlorine prices unsuccessfully, US ethylene dichloride (EDC) prices were unchanged and September notional bids were talked at $430/mt FOB USG while offers were heard at $450/mt FOB USG. In a contango structure market the 3 to 30 days assessment was at $420/mt FOB USG. Upstream, though demand was strong in the summer for chlorine, the last quarter was expected to be slow. Sources said, that this scenario would make difficult for chlorine sellers to implement the second half of their $50/st price hike. US vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) prices were steady at $630/mt this week as the market appeared to lack direction. September bids were last heard $620/mt FOB USG while offer were heard at $640/mt FOB USG. Downstream the domestic PVC demand remained weak however at least one producer had announced a 3 cents/lb October increase.
