The US domestic polystyrene price climbed 2 cents in September, sources said this week. Producers were pushing for a four-cent increase, however half of the increase was delayed until October. “We all thought it would be four,” a US polystyrene buyer said this week. “But it’s two.” Producers, the source said, settled at the 2-cent increase with the expectation that an additional one or two cents could be captured in October. The increase puts the general-purpose polystyrene price at 73 cents/lb. High-impact polystyrene was talked at a seven- to 10-cent premium over general purpose. “Depending on the grade or availability [of the polystyrene], you’re going to pay up to 10 cents [above general purpose material],” a source said. The high-impact polystyrene price was assessed this week at 80 cents/lb.
