Asian prices rose further as demand from the peak July- September Christmas production season went into higher gear. CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia prices increased by 0.77%, or $15/mt, on the week to settle at $1,960/mt. According to LG-Yongxing, China’s largest ABS producer by capacity, demand in the domestic Chinese market was fueled primarily by the electronics sector, while demand from export-oriented sectors were driven mainly by the electronics and toys segment. On the supply side, the ongoing electricity rationing has resulted in LG-Yongxing limiting its run rates to no more than 80% of capacity, or roughly a loss of 8,000 mt in ABS output for August. In line with the supply crunch, Chinese trading house Zhejiang Huamao sold a 200 mt lot- size Korean-origin cargo late last week to Zhejiang Huamao at $1,960/mt CFR China. Kumho reported receiving buying ideas this week at $1,900-1,930/mt versus offers at $1,970- 1,980/mt CFR China, although no deals were done due to the wide gap between the buying ideas and offers.
