The Asian PVC market continued its bull run this week, after having hit a bottom on July 21, as the market was driven by strong demand in China and India. The CFR China price rose $6/mt on week and settled at $965/mt. A Taiwan producer started its September business at $960-970/mt CFR China earlier this week. The outcome was slightly lower than the market’s expectations of $980-990/mt CFR China. Market sources said China’s traders were widely accepting the price levels. But South Korean and Japanese producers continued to take a wait-and-see stance, and plan to start offering after business has been done at $970/mt CFR China. The target prices of Japanese and South Korean producers were reported at $980-1,000/mt CFR China. Strong buying appetite was due also to rising US-origin PVC prices. Traders in Asia reported offers from the US at $880-900/mt FOB US Gulf, or mid- to high-$900s/mt CFR Asia including a freight cost of $70/mt from the US to Asia.
