US PET were under pressure again in December as costs increased more than resin prices. The Dec PX contract rose 5 cents/lb and added 2.91 cents/lb to producers’ costs while the MEG contract climbed up 3.25 cents/lb which added an additional 1.11 cents/lb to raw material costs. In total, from MEG and PX feed costs increased 4.02 cents/lb. PET makers only nominated a 3 cents/lb increase for December, however, and even if they get the entire increase, they would still be a little over a penny/lb in the hole for the month. This lead to some dire comments on the state of the market.
