The European spot ethylene market appeared finely balanced Friday, with selling interest less visible than last week. Production issues at some crackers earlier in the week led to some prompt demand and it became clear that there was less prompt tonnage available than previously anticipated, sources said. Prompt volume was thin in most systems this week, sources said. “Maybe there is marginally more volume in the system than last month as some crackers have resumed operations, but it is all just some ‘loose change’ in a pocket, not more than 1,000mt,” an ethylene producer said. “There is no significant shift in the balances, prompt volume is still tight now,” he added.
