European polyvinyl chloride producers announced a Eur50-60/mt increase for February PVC contract prices, in an effort to recover lost margins and pass through increased feedstock costs, sources said Wednesday. European ethylene contract prices had increased Eur107/mt over December-February— representing around a Eur54/mt increase in terms of PVC. However, producers have so far been able to pass through feedstock increases, instead conceding decreases between Eur20-30/mt for December CPs and only passing through minor increases of between Eur5-10/mt for January. Poor demand levels amid adverse weather conditions as well as continued pressure from cheaper imports had been blamed on the lack of price rises.
