Acrylonitrile: Europe

Spot acrylonitrile was assessed at $1,990-2,000/mt CIF Med this week with all sources continuing to describe a very tight availability in Europe. This is the first time spot has touched the $2,000/mt mark since September 2008, on the eve of the economic crisis. A market source on both the buy and sell side said this week that they had seen offers and an indicated traded level of $2,000/mt CIF Med, but no confirmation was received. No updates were received regarding Ineos’ production unit at Cologne in Germany which has been closed on shortage of feedstock from the cracker at the same site.
