MEG prices increased in the US despite a falling Asian market as North American supply remained exceedingly tight. The drop in Asia cut off the arbitrage window but traders said if Europe takes another step higher, one might be able to take cargoes to Europe, if there were spot cargoes available. At 46 cents/lb FOB USG, a participant said Europe might work if it were not for the import duty. However, there were no spot offers in the US as producers were tight. Old World and Huntsman have had minor plant trouble in the US in January and while they were able to recover, the outages left the market tight.
