Styrene spot prices rose over $50/mt up from the December 11 assessed level of $1,117.75-1,118.75 FOB R’dam as buyers of January barges rushed in to short cover amid a fear of reduced supply on fears over delayed plant restarts. One trader recently said that there was a risk that the Dow unit could restart later in January. The firm January demand saw buyers willing to pay a higher premium.
