ABS feedstocks were again mixed this week, leaving the cost impact on the product effectively neutral in the region, while an increase in Asian prices and a strengthening dollar meant that the likelihood of imports would subside for at least another month. Styrene monomer edged lower during the week, falling $18.50/mt on a FOB R’dam basis, although a contango opened up Friday for September-delivery material. However, with cheaper crude and only a small increase likely in benzene, the picture for September was still not clear. The market for spot butadiene in Europe also moved lower as US prices fell, effectively closing the export window. While the market was assessed down Eur10/mt this week at Eur1,490- 1,500/mt FD NWE, sources said that spot volume was now valued below the Eur1,480/mt FD NWE Q3 CP.
