The February butadiene contract has settled at 70 cents/lb [$1,543.25/mt], up 7 cents from January, market sources confirmed on Friday. The increase was spurred by recent domestic production outages, sources said. “There isn’t any product available,” a trading source said. The spot price this week was being talked at a 10-cent premium to the new contract price, up more than 8 cents from last week’s spot level. “Even if you’re willing to pay 80 cents, you might not be able to get product,” the source said. “People are really desperate for product now,” a second source said.
