Asian paraxylene rose $3 Thursday to end the week at $960.75/mt FOB Korea and $975.75/mt CFR Taiwan/China, strengthened by gains in the energy complex. There were no participants in the Platts Market on Close assessment process but a bid for an October arrival parcel was heard at $975/mt CFR but did not draw out any sellers. Brokers said offers were at $990/mt CFR and sellers would not be tempted to sell lower. However, Chinese purified terephthalic acid maker Shoaxing Yuandong said they bought two PX cargoes at an average price of $950/mt CFR China, L/C 90 days. The deal took the market by surprise as it was more than $20 below current prices.
