PET bottle chips rose $40 this week to settle at $1,290/mt FOB Northeast/Southeast Asia on the back of rising raw material costs. PET producers are increasingly stifled by rising costs, but bid levels are “not improving fast enough,” a Southeast Asian producer said. PET makers in China are offering parcels at $1,300/mt FOB, but producers elsewhere are all offering at $1,350/mt FOB. “I don’t understand why China can offer at such a low price. This is definitely below cost,” a South Korean maker said.
