Asian butadiene surged this week on tight supply amid a plant outage and production cut. The FOB Korea/Japan benchmark jumped $70/mt, or 3.4%, to $2,120/mt, while CFR Taiwan/China settled at $2,050/mt, up $37.50-40/mt from last week. In Southeast Asia, the benchmark gained $40 to settle at $2,060/mt, but producers are keen to push prices higher amid tight supply. BST offered a 500 mt parcel for end April/early May loading at $2,300/mt FOB. A company source admitted it would be difficult to conclude a deal at that level. Meanwhile, a 1,500 mt parcel was said to have been traded at $2,250/mt FOB Korea, causing alarm among end-users who have seen their profit margins eroded by expensive feedstock.
