Ethylene prices in Europe dipped further this week, as supplycontinued to outpace demand, sources said. Sourcescommented on the attractiveness of spot compared withcontract volumes, reporting increased “spot exposure” frombuyers. A buyer claimed: “There is an excess of 30,000 mt ofspot ethylene being offered right now, finding no buyers.” Headded that importing deep-sea material was complicated asEuropean producers’ storage tanks were full, making loading atports difficult. He had rejected a deep sea offer at $1,220/mtCIF NWE. Another buyer said there was a “tsunami” ofethylene for the European market.
