High density polyethylene across regions in Asia rose, fueled by market expectations of a higher cost and tighter supply situation in the first quarter of 2010 due to a packed schedule for cracker turnarounds and a shortage of natural gas in the Middle East. A source from a Middle Eastern producer said lower oil production levels have led to lesser output of associated gas, which was also facing competing demand for electricity generation and water desalination. In the Far East, HDPE film offers ranged $1,250-1,290/mt CFR China, while trades took place within a broad band of $1,220-1,260/mt CFR.
