Spot values climbed closer to the December contract level this week to be assessed at Eur750-760/mt FD NWE amid a tightening, yet still not fundamentally short market. While availability was said to be better than for cracker co-product propylene, “prompt supplies would be hard to come by,” one producer said. As had been seen through the beginning of December, the producer said it would be feasible for a cracker operator to run harder in order to fill his tank enough to supply a spot order—but there was “simply not much material around for prompt supply.” Ineos’ steam cracker at Cologne in Germany was expected to remain shut down until the end of 2009 having experienced an unplanned shut down December 10 due to a technical issue, a company source said Friday.
