Asian polyethylene terephthalate bottle grade chip prices wereassessed $5/mt lower on the FOB Northeast Asia benchmark at$1,565/mt FOB NEA Wednesday and flat in Southeast Asia at$1,585/mt FOB SEA. Raw material costs eased as previouslystrangled supplies of monoethylene glycol saw further reliefthis week. Purified terephthalic acid prices increased $5/mtweek on week to $1,170/mt CFR China but monoethyleneglycol prices slumped $51/mt to $1,173/mt CFR China onWednesday. MEG prices eased significantly after Taiwan’s NanYa Plastics restarted its No. 1 and No. 2 lines on July 7 and July11, respectively. Nan Ya was forced to shut the No. 1 and No. 2lines on May 12 due to a fire at Formosa Petrochemical Corp.’sLPG pipeline at the same site.
