The US spot ethylene market was relatively steady on theshortened week, closing Friday on either side of 65.50cents/lb, the same levels seen Tuesday. The week ended with a contract settlement for May that saw prices moveup 1.25 cents to 58.50 cents/lb, the fourth consecutivemonth the market has seen an increase. That said, therelatively small increase could be seen as a victory forbuyers, who fought off efforts by producers for a largerincrease given higher spot prices for the month. Spotethylene averaged just under 66.50 cents/lb in May,according to Platts data.
