Asian PET bottle grade chips were assessed $43/mt or 2.5% lower week on week Wednesday at $1,650/mt FOB Northeast Asia and FOB Southeast Asia. The fall was in line with lower prices of key feedstocks such as purified terephthalic acid and monoethylene glycol, as well as a lack of demand among buyers. PTA prices fell $37.50/mt or 2.9% week on week Wednesday to $1,237.5/mt CFR, while MEG tumbled $52/mt or 4% over the same period to $1,237/mt CFR China. Buyers were adopting a wait-and-see-attitude due to the volatility in raw material prices, Asian producers said. “Customer enquiries were minimal as they were waiting for clearer signs before deciding to purchase, that’s why the market was very quiet,” one produce said.
