US styrene producers were threatening to cut production rates this week as climbing benzene values put production costs well above arbitrage levels. "If we can't get 47 [cents/lb], we won't produce," a trading source said on Thursday. "We won't be able to sell below that level because of where we'd have to lock in benzene and ethylene at this point."
