Spot export prices were steady this week with the lack of offers matched by few bids. Traders were mainly working off inventory to make deals in South America as US producers did not have competitive offers and did not yet have pressure to make lower offers for export. "There's not much offered in the US," a trader said. "A price in the mid-60's cents/lb range just won't make it," the trader added. Ineos held a large-part blow molding auction last week in which 10 cars were sold at 61.5 cents/lb. The auction was heard to have gone to 61.9 cents/lb, but the company reduced the final price in order to sell more railcars, a source said. Export demand was slow, and converters were buying only what they needed and they did not need to build inventory.
