Butadiene prices in Taiwan showed the largest increase thisweek, surging $299/mt week on week to a record $3,810/mton a CFR basis Friday due to tight domestic availability. Formosa Petrochemical’s No. 1 naphtha-fed steam cracker atMailiao has been shut since May 12 following an LPGpipeline fire. Due to the shortage, CPC Corp. bought a H2July cargo for $3,810/mt CFR Taiwan from a South Koreantrader. Apart from the tight situation in Taiwan, the UScompeted for butadiene cargoes, as South Korea’s YNCC soldabout 3,500 mt of butadiene for early July-loading at$3,900/mt FOB Korea late last week.
